Certified Parks & Recreation Professional Study Group - Attendee Registration

Level Up and Become a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP)!  NCRPA has partnered with Dr. Joy James to provide a preparation study course to get ready for the CPRP exam. Dr. James is a professor at Appalachian State University. She has a B.S., from the University of Georgia, an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Illinois University, and a Ph.D., in Parks Recreation and Tourism Management from Clemson University. This 4-night study course will provide info on test taking, a review of key sections, and allow you to connect with your fellow attendees as you prepare for and take the exam.

Location: Live Virtual Sessions.  Sessions will not be recorded.
Date: Tuesday Evenings - February 11, February 25, March 4, and March 18
Time:  7-8 pm each night.
Registration Deadline: February 6, 2025.  Study guides must be ordered by January 31, 2025.
Fee: 

  • Study Course PLUS Application and Exam Fee:  $300.   Study Guide can be purchased separately if needed 
    This option is only available to NCRPA members and you must be signed in to register for this option.
  • Study Course Only:  $75 for members | $125 Non-Members.  Study Guide can be purchased separately if needed
  • Study Guide  (6th Edition):  $55 (includes shipping cost)

Study Guides:  Study guides are not mandatory but highly recommended to supplement in-class learning and test preparation. You can borrow a study guide from a colleague or purchase one from NRPA if not purchasing a package that includes a Study Guide.  We will be using the 6th Edition.

Important Information:

  • Prior to registering for this course review the CPRP eligibility requirements.
  • Refunds will not be issued if it is determined you are not eligible for the exam. If you have questions on eligibility, contact the NRPA Certification Staff at certification@nrpa.org
  • Qualifying documentation is not required at the time of initial application; however, some applications will be randomly selected by NRPA for audit to ensure the accuracy and validity of the data provided.

The National Recreation and Park Association administers the CPRP exam. The Certified Park and Recreation Professional certification is the national standard for all parks and recreation professionals who want to be at the forefront of their profession. Attaining the CPRP designation shows that you have met education and experience qualifications, and illustrates your commitment to the profession as well as your knowledge and understanding of key concepts within parks and recreation. Shipping Address:  For those purchasing a Study Guide, it will be sent via USPS. Please be sure to enter a valid SHIPPING address when registering.  This address must be able to receive small packages.  NCRPA Is not responsible for undelivered or delayed materials due to inaccurate addresses.

Cancellation deadline: February 3, 2025. Cancellation requests made on or before February 3rd will be subject to a $50 cancellation fee if the plastic covering has been removed from the Study Guide.  Unopened study materials may be returned for a refund.   Registration transfers will be allowed up to three business days before the start of the course. The original applicant is responsible for getting the study materials to their replacement.  Cancellation requests and transfer requests must be made in writing to brad@ncrpa.net. (Please note this is not NCRPA's normal cancellation/refund policy.) 

Class Size:  Space is limited.  Registration is on a first come, first serve basis.
