OFF-SITE INSTITUTE REGISTRATION

The team from Greensboro Parks & Recreation has curated a great list of off-site institutes for you to explore. Check out the information below for each tour and make your selections.  Each tour does have a maximum capacity and are available first come, first served.

All tours will depart and return from the Koury Convention Center.  

Cost:  Included with your registration fee.  Select Non-Member Registration to sign up for these events

 

Tour Information:

  •   Battleground Parks District - Enjoy a driving tour through a region of facilities that come together as the Battleground Parks District. Facilities include Country Park, Spencer Love Tennis Center, Jaycee Park baseball stadium, Lewis Recreation Center, Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, and the Greensboro Science Center.
  • Historic Magnolia House Visit a piece of national history, in what was once a Green Book site - where the Historic Magnolia House hosted the likes of Ray Charles, Gladys Knight, Jackie Robinson and many prominent African Americans during segregation. Enjoy a historical "Shoebox Meal" (included) during this lunch-n-learn and tour.
  • Downtown Parks In the heart of Greensboro's central business district sit two public parks - Center City Park and LeBauer Park. Learn about the parks' history, development, management, public activation and placemaking efforts, while enjoying a tour within the Cultural District. Lunch for purchase on-site from Parkside Pull-Up (burgers, hot dogs, fries, shakes, etc.)

  • International Civil Rights Center & Museum - In Greensboro in 1960, four African American students from NC A&T State University staged a sit-in at a segregated Woolworth’s lunch counter - for what then became a national sit-in movement and catalyst for civil rights. Visit that original Woolworth's site as the International Civil Rights Center & Museum for a 90-minute guided tour.
  • Gateway Gardens & Barber Park Enjoy a short walking tour through Gateway Gardens, one of Greensboro's four public botantical gardens. Then drive through adjacent Barber Park, before visiting the Barber Park Event Center - home to the Ruth Wicker Tribute to Women.
  • Keeley Park - Keeley Park staff will guide you for a walking tour to visit the community garden, NEW adaptive mountain bike trail, all-inclusive playground, sprayground, and more.
  • The Downtown Greenway is a 4-mile multi-use urban loop encircling downtown Greensboro. This walking tour will cover the 3 miles of open sections and highlight local history, project development, public art, economic impact, and more.
  •  Smith Active Adult Center - One of Greensboro's two community centers serving our senior population ("Active Adults"), Smith Center is an active hub of programming and home to pickleball courts, an indoor pool, and more. Smith was recently awarded recertification as a Center of Excellence through 2029.
